I just listened to the Miles Davis version of “Summertime” from his 1958 album Porgy and Bess. Seeing as we are in the middle of a pretty brutal winter, it made me think, of course, of summertime. It also took me back to my college years when I was an active musician (I still consider myself a musician, but because of my disability, I’m not really an active one).
As I wrote in a blog a few years ago, I am grateful for some of the lessons that music taught me, and I think one of the most important ones is that different does not necessarily mean wrong. You can apply that in nearly any situation. For example, yesterday as I was getting lunch, I needed something to drink and I felt like having some soda, but it was somewhere in the refrigerator that I could not reach, I could, however, reach the faucet, so I just had some water with lunch. Drinking water is probably better for me anyway!
